Marianna is a rising 5th year Software Engineering student at Rochester Institute of Technology. Currently, she is currently on co-op and loves it. Growing up in a tech family, it seemed obvious Marianna would go into the technology world somehow. During the summer after sixth grade, she found out what she could do with HTML/CSS and became intrigued. From then on, she has been coding ever since.
This past summer, Marianna had a fun filled summer working as an Explorer Intern at Microsoft for the Universal Outlook team. Seattle was a beautiful city and she would not mind visiting back again. Marianna now works for Lenel, a Climate, Controls, and Security company under United Technologies.
Marianna is an active member of her community being involved in both the Society of Software Engineers (SSE) and Women In Computing (WiC). Through both organizations, she has helped out with Open Houses as she loves the opportunity to give back to the community. She is currently the Secretary for the Society of Software Engineers. Being Secretary allowed her to work closely with many other officers and contribute to the organization. For WiC, she volunteered for the WE@RIT/WiC Open House and taught young girls how to program using Java in RoboCode. Though tiring, she found this opportunity fulfilling. Inspiring young girls is something she loves to do and plans on helping out other young girls in the future. In High School, Marianna was the founding president of the Pope John XXIII High School chapter of Girls Who Code and plans on staying involved in the chapter sharing her knowledge to the younger students as college progresses.
In her spare time, Marianna enjoys reading works of fiction. Books were Marianna's first love and she has no plans on breaking up with them. For most of her life, she has had an interest in the arts. Dancing has always been something she enjoyed and plans to continue through life as much as she can. Besides dancing, around the time she started coding, Marianna found she has a knack for digital art. Her portfolio has her projects, some of which have been recognized in her local community. Besides coding languages, Marianna has found a connection to her heritage through her five years of learning the Italian culture and language. She found a love for the language and hopes to finish the advanced Italian classes.
